Israel no longer occupies Ireland.

Here is an idea...... how about removing English as an official language of the state and make it optional in the leaving cert. Doing so would save money as we wouldn't be wasting resources on a language we already speak and open up opportunities for kids who want to study a second, third or fourth language in school. Do we really want to teach foreigners English when it isn't even our language, it doesn't matter if we teach them Mandarin, Russian, Spanish etc because we wound be getting the benefit of that ourselves. As for inward investment, removing English as an official language will not disadvantage us as we will still be listed as a country where the unofficial use of English is still ubiquitous and besides, the future is BRICS+ which tend to be non English speaking countries. In fact, the future may well be hostile to English as a language as the sins of those who spread it will not be forgotten any time soon.

The number of people killed is not a factor in Genocide. The reason why it is not, is because when the Genocide Convention was drawn up, all major powers believed wars were inevitable and it would be ridiculous just to have a simple measure as the academic attempts to use here, 2% of Gaza residents have died, therefore its genocide. The Convention is based around intent. Is your intent to kill people simply because of the ethnic or religious group you belong to. Ireland wants to move the definition beyond ‘intent’. For the same reason as after the Second World War the law was drawn with a narrow definition, most countries will not support a widening.

Because Israel knows the hard core antisemitism in Norway, Spain and South Africa is relatively rare. As an Irishman I know in Ireland it is common.
